Adolescent DBT Skills Training Groups
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training is an 18 session program for teens in grades 8-12 designed to reduce self-destructive behavior such as self-harm and suicide attempts, acting out in anger, impulsivity, substance usage, and some eating disordered behavior. The goal of DBT skills training is to teach life-long skills that can lead to an improved ability to cope with stress, better communication skills, greater acceptance of oneself and others, and healthier approaches to dealing with strong emotions.
DBT skills training is meant to be a supplement to, not a substitution for individual therapy and it is required that individual be in concurrent individual therapy, preferably with a DBT informed-clinician. Admission to DBT is by application only.
