About Dr. Wishnick

Hello! I am Dr. Hillary Wishnick, a doctorally trained clinical psychologist and an experienced collaborative divorce professional and mediator.  Clinically I work with adolescents (ages 12+), adults, and couples. In mediation and collaborative divorce, I work with couples who are going through a separation and also parents who are having some challenges with co-parenting. I also do elder mediation with families who need to have important conversations about plans for elderly family members.

My Training as a Clinical Psychologist

As a clinical psychologist, I am a doctorally trained mental health professional. Psychologists typically have at least six years of graduate level training, plus an additional postdoctoral year prior to licensure, which makes us among the most highly trained mental health specialists. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I received my Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cincinnati, with a focus on serious mental illnesses. My major research focus was learning to live a meaningful life within the limits of mental health problems.

I am a licensed psychologist in the states of Ohio and Indiana and hold PSYPACT certification, which allows me to practice telehealth in the vast majority of US states. I am a member of the Ohio Psychological Association and The Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychology, for which I served on the board of directors. I have also received specialized training in providing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD. I developed and ran Adolescent DBT Skills Training Groups for 13 years. I am also an appointed trustee on the Hamilton County (Ohio) Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.

I have worked with a wide range of clients in different settings including community mental health, college counseling, hospitals, and prisons. Although I am not a native, I have been living in the Cincinnati area since for many years. I am passionate about exercise and believe it is an important component of stress management and mental health.

My Training in Collaborative Divorce and Mediation

In addition to my clinical training, I also have extensive experience as a collaborative divorce professional and mediator. I am a long-time member and past president of The Cincinnati Academy of Collaborative Professionals, which is a multidisciplinary organization of attorneys, mental health professionals and financial professionals who work together to minimize conflict and to lessen the impact of separations on children. Click here for more information about the collaborative process. I have also completed basic, family law and elder care mediation training through the Ohio Supreme Court, as well as numerous collaborative divorce trainings with leaders in the field. I am also a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and currently serve on the Standards and Ethics Committee for this organization.
